Douglas Scott Swezey

Douglas Scott Swezey was born in Vici, Oklahoma on October 23, 1988. Scotty was the third child of Greg and Ja Lea. Scotty died peacefully on May 17, 2024, in Cottage Grove, OR, surrounded by his family.

Scotty moved with his family to Brewster, WA in 1989 and celebrated his 1st birthday in Washington State. He attended Brewster Christian School from kindergarten to 4th grade and then attended Brewster Middle School. He started his freshman year at Pateros High School. He played, basketball, baseball and tennis and graduated in 2007. Scotty was baptized by his uncle Marty Evans into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn on April 2008. Then, Scotty moved to Oklahoma City and lived with his Nana & Papa Freeman. He returned to Brewster WA in 2009 and met Shay McManus and moved to Halsey, OR in 2010. Scotty married the love of his life, Jacelyn Shay on February 26, 2011 and made their home in Halsey, OR. They loved their life together and had many brethren stay with them. He worked for 1st Rate Roofing, owned by his uncle Marshall McManus. He loved working alongside his father in-law and many brethren for 10 years. On September 30, 2014, God blessed them with a baby girl, Jaimie Richan. In January 2021, Scotty and Shay moved back home to Carlton, WA. Scotty went to work for the family business as the General Manager of Cascade Mechanical. Scotty was a hard worker and was always helping others. They were blessed with a son, Chandler Reese, on October 22, 2022, in Methow, WA. Scotty and Shay built a new home in Brewster and had just moved into it in March of this year.  

Scotty’s family was everything to him. Scotty was a giving person, always willing to help anyone in need. Scotty was a minister in The Church of The Firstborn. He baptized 14 young people and married 5 couples. Scotty enjoyed hunting and fishing and barbecuing with his dad and brothers, AJ and Zakk. They would attend elk camp each year. He loved his siblings dearly. The last few years he was blessed with spending a lot of time with his little sisters, Abi Jane and Kylee McManus. 

Scotty is survived by his wife Shay, daughter Jaimie Richan and son Chandler Reese, all of Brewster, WA. His parents Greg & Ja Lea and sister Abi of Carlton, WA. A brother AJ (Emily) of Okanogan, WA.  Father-in-law Mark McManus (Cherie) and sister-in-law Kylee of Carlton, WA. Sister-in-Law Teah Shamburg (Nate) of Enid, OK. Scotty had many aunts, uncles, cousins, brethren and friends that were so very precious to him.  

He was preceded in death by his sister Ashley and brother Zakk, grandparents John and Rosalee Freeman, grandfather J.W. Evans, grandparents Phil and Betty Swezey, uncle Marty Evans, cousin Bethany Evans, mother-in-law Kim McManus, and niece Natalie Rose Shamburg.
