Ten-year Recovery and Reflection event looks back…and ahead

PATEROS – Ten years ago this month, the first of several devastating wildfires consumed homes, changed lives, and ushered in a reminder that fire is no respecter of people or property. The 2014 Carlton Complex wildfire was the first to alert residents that planning, preparation, and protection are key defenses against loss to this all-to-familiar Northwest hazard.

Last Friday and Saturday, July 12-13, the Okanogan County Long Term Recovery Group hosted the 10-Year Recovery. Reflection and Appreciation Event that brought together survivors, volunteers, and donors for a nostalgic look back and a hopeful look forward,

The lessons learned from that decade of common unity and community rebuilding have made many stronger in the face of worse that may be ahead as climate conditions continue to deteriorate.
