Posted

BREWSTER – The arrest of a man suspected of intoxication and cocaine use near the Brewster Elementary School prompted a brief lockdown of the school as Brewster police officers responded to the incident. Police Chief Marcos Ruiz files the following report:

On Sept. 4, at about 12:19 p.m., Brewster officers were dispatched to an intoxication complaint at the Brewster High School baseball field.

School staff reported that the unidentified male was seen drinking beer and smoking what appeared to be marijuana. Officers arrived on the scene and located an adult male subject inside the third baseline dugout.

During the investigation, suspected cocaine was found in a line, ready to be ingested. The adult male was placed in handcuffs and arrested without incident. The adult male was booked into the Okanogan County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance.

During the police activity, the Brewster Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution. The school was on lockdown for about 15 minutes. At no time were any students or staff at risk.

Chief Ruiz added that he commends the Brewster School staff for being alert and vigilant and reporting this situation to the police.
