OKANOGAN – If you like golf, classic cars, or just a good time for a good cause, circle Saturday, June 8, on the calendar. OK Quilts of Valor #95848, the folks who fashion handmade quilts for our military veterans, is holding a Car Show and Golf Tournament Fundraiser at the Okanogan Valley Golf Club at 105 Danker Cutoff Road in Okanogan.

The car show runs from 7 a.m. until noon, followed by the golf tournament from 1-6 p.m. The entry includes dinner for the golfers plus a payout for the top three gross and net scores. The cost is $75 for gold and car entries by donation.

All proceeds go to Quilts of Valor to cover the cost of supplies for veterans’ quilts.

Last September, during the Okanogan County Fair, the local QOV group presented quilts to four area veterans, including Navy veteran Norm Marshall of Bridgeport.

In 2003, while her son was deployed to Iraq, quilter Catherine Roberts started the movement that became Quilts of Valor. Since then, more than 355,000 Quilts of Valor have been awarded. The QOV mission is to comfort and heal service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation (qovf.org) is a movement with more than 10,722 members and 672 groups nationally. Washington State has 24 groups and 550 members and is growing daily.
