Wenatchee aims to continue winning ways against Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES, Wash. — The Wenatchee AppleSox look to extend their winning streak to five games as they take on the Port Angeles Lefties in the second game of their road trip Tuesday night at Civic Field.

Southpaw Quincy Vassar, who led all West Coast League players in strikeouts over the 2022-23 seasons, will make his first start of the summer for the AppleSox. The Brewster native is tied for third in franchise history in strikeouts and needs just 24 more to become the all-time leader. Vassar posted a 5.22 ERA with 33 strikeouts over 50 innings for Vanguard this spring.

The Lefties will counter with right-hander Kole Acker, who held the AppleSox to one run over four innings on Opening Day. Acker went 0-3 with a 6.47 ERA in 19 appearances for Port Angeles last summer.

Wenatchee rallied for a dramatic 6-5 win in the series opener Monday night, scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning without the benefit of a hit. The AppleSox drew four of their six walks in the final frame to fuel the comeback. Carson Boesel earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, while Stephen Hammergren notched his first save.

Reigning WCL Player of the Week Max Hartman recorded his fourth straight multi-hit game for the AppleSox, who have now won the first four meetings with the Lefties this season. A victory Tuesday would give Wenatchee its fourth different win streak of at least five games against Port Angeles since the Lefties joined the league in 2017.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. The game can be watched on wcleague.watch.pixellot.tv and heard on kcsyfm.com.
