Tenth annual golf fundraiser benefits Brewster Boys and Girls Club

Posted

BREWSTER – The 10th annual golf fundraiser, billed this year as the Weinstein Beverage Shootout at Gamble Sands on April 21, was another swinging success for the Brewster Boys and Girls Club (BBGC) in more ways than one. Camaraderie and good weather helped the teams of foursomes take full advantage of the well-manicured links. A dinner and auction afterwards added the right elements to end the day-long event.

The Brewster foursome of Victor Vargas, son, Austin, Bill Vallance and son, Kevin, were tournament winners.

Among the teams was the foursome of Harlan Robison, Zack Ward, Andrew Pham, and Mike Tsoukalas representing the Arlington Boys and Girls Club, where Robison serves as athletic director.

“We have 94 teams this spring,” Robison said of Arlington’s four-sport spring program. There are enough participants that the club can compete within its own ranks without the need to find opponents elsewhere.

Bill Tsoukalas, father of foursome member Mike Tsoukalas, was also among the field of players supporting the BBGC. He is the executive director of the new Lake Chelan Valley Club that announced its debut last June in the Lake Chelan Community Center at 103 Bighorn Way in Chelan.

The Chelan club hit the ground running – as in flag football running – with a new NFL flag football program in which the Brewster club has six teams competing. More than 100 youngsters aged three through sixth grade on teams from the BBGC, Manson and Chelan will compete in upcoming games between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, and May 17, at Sargent Field in Chelan. Brewster hosts the games every other Saturday.

The NFL-sponsored program donated NFL team jerseys to each team, which the kids will get to keep after the season has concluded.

The Chelan club facility inside the Chelan Community Center is on track to be finished by July 1. Athletic Director and Daycare positions are open. Interested parties can apply by emailing acollins@bgcsc.org

Volunteers are also needed to support the program, specifically assistant coaches, referees, and scorekeepers. The club offers community service hours to students ages 14 and up who would like to volunteer.
