Bridgeport opens Berryman Park Renovation bids this week

Posted

BRIDGEPORT—Bids for the Berryman Park Renovation Project will be opened on Tuesday, May 21. Superintendent of Public Works Stuart Dezellem told the Bridgeport Revitalization earlier this month that six contractors downloaded the bid documents, and a possible seventh from Spokane will visit the site tomorrow (Tuesday, May 21).

Once the bids are opened, city engineer Gray & Osborne will review each bid for compliance with bid standards.

The Berryman Park project is funded by the state Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO), and that agency has a firm deadline for project completion in mid-August. To meet that deadline the city wants a quick turnaround between opening the bids and starting the project.

The city council may hold a special session to award the contract as soon as Wednesday, May 22.

“We get the Notice to Proceed from RCO,” said Dezellem. “Hopefully the turnaround on that is quick.”

The Berryman upgrade will include:

  • New walking trails.
  • ADA parking.
  • CXT precast concrete bathrooms.
  • Geo Scramble playground equipment.
  • 20-by-24-foot picnic shelter.
  • Forever Lawn playground resurfacing.
  • Merry-Go-Round.

The Revitalization Committee was appointed four years ago, in February 2020, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic. Seven months later, in September 2020, the Pearl Hill wildfire raced through the community, damaging structures and properties.

The plan, adopted on Jan. 20, 2021, was developed through a public outreach process and shaped by public input. It is intended to act as a guide for future growth and investment in the community. The Berryman Park Renovation is a component of that.
