NANAIMO, B.C. — A late offensive burst propelled the Wenatchee AppleSox to a 9-4 win over the Nanaimo NightOwls on Saturday night at Serauxman Stadium.

Wenatchee broke open a close game with five runs over the final two innings, taking advantage of defensive miscues and delivering key hits to secure the road victory. The AppleSox improved to 5-3 on the season, while the NightOwls fell to 4-4.

Noah Gray Jr. led the AppleSox at the plate, hitting a home run and driving in two runs. Colby Holmdahl added a solo shot, stole a base, and scored twice. Quincy Malbrough contributed with a triple and two RBI to help power the offense.

On the mound, Aiden Johnson started for Wenatchee, striking out six over four innings. Gunnar Penzkover earned the win in relief, and Carson Boesel shut the door with two hitless innings to close out the game.

Despite allowing 10 hits, the AppleSox pitching staff limited the damage. Defensively, Wenatchee committed just one error, while Nanaimo’s four defensive errors and nine stranded runners proved costly.

Trent Zenk and Owen Wessel each recorded multiple hits for the NightOwls, but the late push by the AppleSox proved insurmountable. Jaedeyn Edwards took the loss for Nanaimo, surrendering five runs in the final two frames.

The two teams conclude their series Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
