AppleSox offense erupts in 16-13 victory over Lefties, clinch series

WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee AppleSox offense exploded for 16 runs on 16 hits, propelling them to a 16-13 victory over the Port Angeles Lefties on Saturday night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium, clinching the series win.

Aiden Dougherty had a historic night, going 5-for-6 with three RBIs, tying the AppleSox franchise record for singles in a game. Kade Benavidez also had a standout performance, reaching base five times and driving in five runs, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

The AppleSox took an early 4-0 lead after four innings, but the Lefties responded with a five-run fourth to briefly take the lead. However, Wenatchee quickly regained control, scoring seven runs over the next two innings to build a commanding 12-5 advantage.

Max Hartman set the table from the leadoff spot, scoring three runs and reaching base four times. Harrison Clark and Antonio Gianni also contributed to the offensive onslaught, driving in three and two runs, respectively.

Wenatchee's bullpen held off a late rally by Port Angeles, who scored eight runs over the final four innings, to secure the victory and improve to 2-0 on the season. The Lefties fell to 0-2 with the loss.

The AppleSox will go for the series sweep on Sunday evening at 5:35 p.m. in the finale of the three-game set. The game, presented by Firehouse Pet Shop and Fromm Family Foods, is designated as "Bark In The Park," with fans encouraged to bring their dogs to the stadium.
