Pet owners spend night in line for spay/neuter clinic appointment

Posted

OKANOGAN – The second day of the four-day Big Fix free spay and neuter clinic at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds Agriplex was similar to the first in terms of popularity. Perhaps more so, because some clients spent the night in line to guarantee a spot in Tuesday’s first-come, first-served registration process.

On Monday, May 6, the Team Okanogan Facebook site (facebook.com/teamOKanimalrescue/) announced that it was at capacity by 6:45 a.m. for the day’s quota of 250 animals. That was nearly an hour before the official registration got underway at 7:30 a.m.

On Tuesday morning the site again was at capacity early. The Facebook posting advised: “We are at capacity. People spent the night in line. We will post more updates soon.”

Team Okanogan Animal Rescue (TOAR), founded in 2022, has spent the past two years arranging a visit by Greater Good Charities to the county for what is the largest spay/neuter clinic the state history. The goal of the team of 25v veterinarians, vet techs, and staff together with 60 volunteers is to alter 1,000 animals during the four-day clinic through Thursday, May 9. As the attached photo from TOAR’s Facebook site, the entire Agriplex arena floor is being utilized for the clinic operations.
