A taste of Europe in Brewster

By students of the Brewster Adventist Christian Sc

BREWSTER - The Brewster Adventist Christian School seventh graders gave presentations Jan. 25 on European countries.

For several weeks now, they have been studying Europe and its fascinating history. Teacher Gordon Smith created a fun and educational project that included picking a country from Europe and researching it. All of his six students eagerly picked a country and began on the project. The countries chosen were Russia, Italy, Ireland, Iceland, Greece, and Spain.

As a conclusion for the second quarter, each seventh grader gave a PowerPoint and oral presentation on the country they selected. Here was where their hard work in extensively researching their country paid off.

As a part of the presentation, the students were asked to bring a common food from the country. Food brought included Russian tea cakes, known as Russkiye torty chay in the native language; Icelandic blueberry tarts, known as hjónabandssæla; Spanish potato tortilla, known as tortilla de patatas, and several Greek crackers and hummus dips.

One of the ninth graders, Victoria Smith, observed all the presentations and said, "They all did a fantastic job! Their hard work really paid off and the food was really good!"

This quarter, the seventh graders will be focusing on Eastern Europe. After that they will study Medieval Europe. All of the seventh graders enjoyed learning about different places and about this wonderful and diverse world in which we live.
