PATEROS - The Billygoats are No. 1 in the 1B North following two nail-biting wins last week against Waterville and Entiat.
Both games were won in overtime, with final scores of 53-51 over the Shockers on Jan. 29 and 57-55 against Entiat last Friday.
Lance Evans won the day against Waterville when he stole the ball and ran for a last-minute lay-up, to the thrill of his team and the crowd.
"Our defense kept us in it," said Coach Marcus Stennes. "We did a good job of taking care of the ball and making transition baskets, but our defense is what really kept us in it because we were able to pressure their point guard."
Carlos Ceniceros had 19 points and five assists; Mikey Piechalski had 10 points and 10 rebounds; Evans had nine points, five assists and six steals; Danny Marquez had eight points; Jonathan Gelstin had five points; and Dakota Salcido had two points.
In the game versus Entiat, "We had a chance... to win a shot to win the game or hold the ball at least until it ran down, but ended up turning it over," Stennes said. "With 10 seconds left, Danny Marquez took a charge on the other team and we were able to get the ball with eight seconds left. We made a drive down and Mikey got the basket with no time left."
Ceniceros had two big 3-pointers, and each player pulled down at least four rebounds, Stennes said.
"Pateros played tough and stayed close until the fourth quarter," said Entiat Coach Lee Southard.
The Billygoats were 8-2 in league going into their Tuesday night game against the Mansfield Kernels. Pateros' last league game before districts is this Thursday night at Waterville.

The Pateros Nannies held a commanding 37-19 lead at halftime Friday against the visiting Entiat Lady Tigers.
But the Tigers came out roaring in the third quarter, outscoring Pateros 17-11 and twice closing the gap to 9 points after 3-point shots from Deserie Parks.
But the Nannies re-took control with just over one minute remaining in the quarter. They moved stealthy without the ball, sending runners through the Entiat defense and converting deft passes for easy layups and mixing in the occasional 3-pointer.
Pateros's Katarina Wilson hit two second-half 3-pointers and the Pateros defense clamped down in the open court, forcing turnovers and keeping the tempo up.
