MANSFIELD - The Kernels took it on the chin in their Homecoming game Saturday against Waterville, a match-up that ended 63-32.

In the first quarter the boys scored eight points to Waterville's 15, but picked up the pace in the second to score 10 points to Waterville's 11. The Shockers more than doubled their points scored over Mansfield in the third, 26 over 11, and then the Kernels scored only three points in the fourth.

"We had a decent first half against Waterville," said Coach Ric Bayless. "However, the third quarter [Robert] Parcells came out red-hot and hit four of five 3-point shots. And in the fourth quarter we ran out of steam."

Macen McLean had 13 points, six rebounds, four steals and blocked one shot; CJ Wall had 13 points, one rebound, one assist and five steals; Dylan Douke had four points and six rebounds; and Lane Ehrhard scored two points.

The Kernels lost by only nine points Jan. 29 to the Entiat Tigers, 69-60.

"We played a great first half and stayed even with them through the third quarter. However, we ran out of steam in the fourth quarter," Bayless said. "I was very pleased with the way we played. We kept our turnovers to 10 and improved our shooting percentage to 39 percent (up 25 percent)!"

McLean had 24 points, seven rebounds and blocked two shots; Wall had 16 points, 13 rebounds, one assist, four steals and also blocked two shots; Douke had 12 points; and Ehrhard had eight points.
