Bears open soccer season with two of three shutouts

Posted

BREWSTER – With a turnout just shy of 50 players and a varsity roster of two dozen, the Bears varsity soccer team has a deep bench heavy with seniors and juniors coming into the first matches this season.
Brewster has already shut out two of three Caribou Trail League opponents since its opening season loss to Chelan, 4-2, on March 14. Two days later the Bears held Cashmere scoreless, 4-0, and repeated the feat against Okanogan last Saturday, March 18, just to show it wasn’t luck.
Coach Jenner Sanon lost six seniors to graduation but has eight veterans returning to the varsity this year – Ricardo Gallaga, Felix Nava, Jose Gomez, Jose Marin, Pedro Ortega, Brady Busching, Edgar Najera and Alex Pio. They are a strong remnant of the core that took Brewster to the state soccer quarterfinals last year.
Brewster will travel to Manson, Thursday, March 23, and split the varsity-junior varsity teams for games on Saturday, March 28. The varsity will host Oroville starting at 4:30 p.m. and the JV will travel to Okanogan.
